Biography and Space Fligh
Valentina Tereshkova was born on March 6, 1937, in the village of Bolshoe Maslennikovo, Yaroslavl Oblast. Her father died during the Soviet-Finnish War, and her mother worked on a collective farm. In 1959, Valentina began parachuting at the Yaroslavl Aeroclub, which marked the beginning of her path to cosmonautics.
On June 16, 1963, Valentina Tereshkova made a historic flight on the Vostok 6 spacecraft, becoming the first woman in space. Her call sign was "Chaika" and during the flight she orbited the Earth 48 times. After this flight, she was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union

Social and Political Activities
After her space flight, Valentina Tereshkova became an active participant in public and political life. Since 1966, she began to engage in public activities, was elected as a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. From 1968 to 1987, she headed the Committee of Soviet Women.
In 1992-2004, Valentina Tereshkova held various positions at the Russian Agency for International Cooperation and was the Chairperson of the Presidium of the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAMS). Since 2008, she has been a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and a member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party
Modern Social Activity
Currently, Valentina Tereshkova continues her active public life. She is a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and participates in various international organizations. In 2020, she proposed an amendment to the Constitution of the Russian Federation allowing the current president to run for office again
